Internet security is of paramount importance! They ARE out to get you. I test, and run, a multitude of security options. We have six machines up and running right here. They have different systems installed - my personal favorites you will find listed here. (Also under evaluation is the new AVG Free 8.5)

Simple questions and the curious are welcome to Email/IM at no cost.

My public bookmark site is on Blinklist; there you will find every site I deemed worthy of mention. Each listing will contain a brief description of the site; sort of a mini-review. Full reviews, as they become available, can be found on my personal blog w2wScribe which contains many random samples of my other writing as well.

Security Recommendations:
If you are still using IE - QUIT NOW!

Switch to Firefox for a much more stable and secure browsing experience. There are hundreds of plug-ins by 3rd party vendors to customize your browser to suit your web-style. Every hacker wannabe goes after IE. With Firefox you can add things like KeyScrambler to gaurd against key loggers recording every key you type and my personal favorite - NoScript . NoScript blocks everything by default and must be taught what to let pass. You NEED TO LEARN what to block and allow!

Another alternative browser, and my personal favorite, is the Flock social browser.
It has "baked-in" functionality for a multitude of social sites including Blogger which is the host for my w2wScribe blog. This is another Mozilla based platform and can be every bit as secure as Firefox. All social browsers should check out Flock.

For you die hard IE fans go to IE7 PRO and get it installed. There are programs which refuse to use my chosen default browser so I try to keep IE secure as well.
The latest version of IE8 and IE7 Pro seem to work well together.

I used to run McAfee on my Vista as a part of my Comcast package just for a start. It has a rather large footprint but, with 2G of memory and an optimizer it runs quietly. It does not play well with others; however, it can be made to behave. Since my contract expired with my move I run the full free Comodo Internet Security Suite on my personal machines. The other three PCs run with the latest AVG Free.

Spybot/TeaTimer is my main security device; it runs in the background and will NOT let anything get passed you unnoticed. I also run Comodo on every machine that will run it; my XP and Vista currently run the full Comodo Internet Security Suite which includes the former stand-alone anti-malware known as BOC. I do have an ancient Win98 which will not run most of the newer software but, it was a lot of fun trying to find "support" for the poor thing.

For general speedy cleans and spruce ups I suggest CCleaner from Piriform. Use CAUTION; this must be set up properly or you will toss your cookies! They also make Recuva which will attempt a rather extensive search for lost files and Defraggler which is a much faster and more efficient defrag than ofered in XP/Vista. I run it on all three on my personal Windows machines. CCleaner is also installed on the upstairs common access PC which gets used for photo editing and obscure internet searches; it gets rather bogged down at times with temp and cache files.

*Billable time is that which is reasonable and expected; sometimes things take a great while to complete. We might wind up having lunch (or breakfast/dinner; my hours are not 9-5) while we wait. How could I bill you for that?!

^Local is Anderson and Knox County in TN, USA.

Email/IM/Phone support is available as needed and as contract.  Remote Assistance can be initiated from most Windows machines with a functional operating system. Should it not be functional I will walk you through what needs to be done step-by-step.When I am done and you are fully satisfied you will have total control of your machine and  nobody else will have unauthorized access!

Service plans are pending. I need to see what people need and what can be automated and scheduled so you don't need me anymore :(
